OSIL (Ocean Scientific International Limited), a Havant based oceanographic marine instrument and systems provider, are delighted to introduce YSI’s latest advance, the 6-Series Anti-Fouling Kit for YSI Sondes.
YSI’s groundbreaking anti-fouling kit helps to tackle a longstanding hindrance to oceanographic monitoring. Biofouling has been proven to affect the quality of data collected by monitoring equipment and results in increased trips to the field and inflated expenditure on maintenance. YSI have reported their anti-fouling kit to reduce deployment intervals by over 3 times, saving valuable time and operating costs whilst producing more accurate results over longer periods.
The equipment features copper based parts which repel aquatic growth on sensors and enabled deployment for 30+ days without data being compromised by biofouling.

YSI have released the Anti-fouling kit following two years of testing at nine different locations providing samples of both marine and freshwater environments. The kit was developed as a direct result of their findings and includes sonde guards, probe wipers, and hardware fabricated from copper alloys as well as copper tape for the probe bodies and longer and thicker wiper pads which clean the whole of the sensor face. The result is an efficient accessory which could prove to streamline oceanographic monitoring practise.
